Chefs from all over Spain will fight for the first prize in creative cuisine with Granadas d’Elche

Four for three. These will be the recipes that will want to obtain a favorable verdict for the members of the jury of the creative cooking contest of Elche with pomegranates. From different corners of Spain, they will compete at La Finca, the famous restaurant of Susi Díaz, to offer new perspectives on dishes based on this fruit.

The suspense between the four proposals will continue until Thursday, January 26. The finalists of the twelfth edition are Aitor Del Olmo the Amaren restaurant in Bilbao with its Amaren Punic Cheesecake dish; Beatriz and Rodrigo Fernandez from the Arsa restaurant in Logroño with its proposal Aged duck in a pomegranate and gingerbread crust, pomegranate and duck demi-glace and kale. Duck stew fritters, fua, in pomegranate brine and pomegranate air and eau-de-vie; Pablo Diez from the restaurant La Trapera located in Pradoluengo (Burgos) with pomegranate, pumpkin and pesto; Yes Vanessa Carrero from the DOMGiM restaurant in Elche with the dish Meloso granada mollar rice from Elche PDO and desalted cod supreme.

All will try to conquer the jury composed by pastry chef Paco Torreblanca; chef Pablo Montoro of the restaurant Espacio Montoro and executive chef of Eatrenalin (Germany); and Susi Díaz as president of the jury. The finalists will have 45 minutes to prepare their recipe and the jury will evaluate the technique, the presentation of the dish, the flavor and the importance of pomegranate mollar from Elche in it.

2,500 euro prize money

The competition will distribute 2,500 euros in prizes thanks to the sponsorship of VisitElche, Cajamar and Tescoma with the collaboration of the City Council of Elche, the Tourist Board of the Costa Blanca, the gastrotourism brand L’Exquisit Mediterrani, Molt from Gust and the support of chef Susi Díaz, Eurotoques and the food blog Carolus Cocina.

The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of 1,500 euros while for the second, third and fourth classified there will be cash prizes of 600, 300 and 100 euros, respectively. In addition, Tescoma will issue vouchers of 300, 200, 150 and 100 euros to be exchanged at your establishment.

The president of the Protected Designation of Origin Mollar de Elche Granada, Francisco Oliva, congratulated the finalists and thanked the interest of all the participants who put their talent and creativity at the service of this fruit with DOP.

Madrid Fusion

It will be an intense week for the promotion of the Protected Designation of Origin of the Mollar Pomegranate of Elche. In addition to the contest in his country, he will be present in Madrid Fusión through a culinary exhibition that will be carried out by Gemma Rodríguez from Cookies para todos.

His intervention will take place this Tuesday, January 24 at 5:30 p.m. on the stage of the gastronomic network of Turisme de la Comunitat Valenciana L’Exquisit Mediterrani and for this he also had the support of the Provincial Tourist Office of the White Coast.
