The best microwave potato recipe

Parker Feierbach

You could spend 15 minutes preheating the oven and then another hour cooking, but why do that when you can microwave them in just 7 minutes? And with a spectacular and economical result! Thinking about it, we decided to share our microwave roasted potato recipe, so you can win. Because cooking this dish like that, all are advantages. That’s all you need to know.

Wash it. Clean the potatoes first, especially if you like to eat them with the skin on. Wash it under the tap or immerse it in water and scrub it thoroughly. Then dry it very well.

Poke it. Yes, with a fork. “Stab” the whole potato. Because? Because it helps the steam escape during the heating process, prevents it from exploding, and helps the potato get a chewier texture. This is an important step, so don’t skip it! And if you want the skin to be a little crispy, make sure the potato is completely dry after washing, then massage it with a little oil just before microwave it.

Microwave. To cook it in the microwave, we like the Red Pontiac or “red potato”, although you can use whatever you prefer or have on hand. Of course, keep in mind that depending on its size and density, cooking times will vary. Start with 3-4 minutes on full power (800W), then flip and continue with an additional 3 minutes of cooking time, adding more time as needed for the perfect tender, creamy baked potato.

Alone or “your way”. Roast Potato is so thankful that you can go crazy with the ingredients you choose! You can just add a little butter, a tablespoon of sour cream, a pinch of salt and pepper, and your favorite fresh herbs. It will be divine. Or add grated cheese and let it melt for another minute in the microwave, then top with ham or even bacon (also micro-fried). And here’s another idea that drives us crazy and is aimed at the most innovative and daring: add pesto with freshly grated parmesan, a little miso and a hint of furikake.

  1. Wash the potato well, dry it and prick it 3 to 4 times with a fork. Place on a microwave-safe plate and microwave for 7 minutes, turning halfway through. If the potato is not tender after 7 minutes, continue to microwave it in 1 minute increments. Let stand 2 minutes.
  2. To serve: Cut the potato in half, season with salt and pepper and top with butter before serving. This is the base (if you want to “adjust” it, it’s up to your imagination).
